UnitedHealthcare Donates $1.4 Million ...

STOCKS/ECONOMY

-Stock futures are mixed, with the Dow down, but the Nasdaq higher after Wednesday's 700-point loss for the Dow, larger 2.2 percent selloff for the S&P 500, and a 3.1 percent fall for the Nasdaq. A huge drag on the Dow is Dow component UnitedHealth (UNH) after it reported a disturbing earnings miss.

-The yield on the 10-year Treasury bond is at 4.30 percent.

-Gold is still near its all time high at the $3,343 per ounce level. Bitcoin is at the $84,600 level.

-Asian markets closed mostly higher today, led by a 1.6 percent rally for the Hang Seng. The Nikkei gained 1.4 percent, and the Shenzhen lost 0.2 percent.

OIL/ENERGY

-U.S. crude prices are up and now at the $63 a barrel level.

-Gasoline prices are at $3.16 a gallon, national average.

SICK HEALTH

-United HealthCare (UNH) reported weaker than expected quarterly profits and revenues and also cut full-year earnings guidance. Its shares are down 21 percent in the premarket.

WEIGHT LOSS WARS

-Eli Lilly (LLY) released data showing good results for its experimental weight loss pill orforglipron in phase-3 trials. This comes after rival Pfizer (PFE) pulled production of its experimental daily weight loss pill. Eli Lilly shares are up 11 percent in the premarket.

OTHER KEY EARNINGS

-Homebuilder D.R. Horton (DHI) reported weaker than expected quarterly profits and revenues. Its shares are down 3 percent in the premarket.

-Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) reported better than expected quarterly profits and revenues. Its shares are up 3 percent in the premarket.

-Aluminum giant Alcoa (AA) reported weaker than expected quarterly revenues. Its shares are down 1 percent in the premarket.
